Austin American-Statesman: An in-depth look at Austin's 3-1-1 detailed calls

The City of Austin started posting detailed 3-1-1 work request data to a public, searchable database on their website this January. The city started 3-1-1 in 2001 to differentiate emergency calls to 9-1-1 from citizen work requests but detailed information has not been available, except through public information requests.

We took the first month’s data of 2014 and compared it to the monthly totals of last year’s 3-1-1 work requests, which we obtained from the city through an open records request. Read more.
